Again — “the teachings of Jesus stand in eternal judgment of oppression.” Incredible insight.
The thing is, our president’s use of the word ‘freedom’ mixed with God and Dr. King’s words, along with his State of the Union speech last night, and especially his Inaugural Address last month, probably renders my newfound respect for Mr. Bush useless.
Mr. Bush doesn’t seem to understand that he is a source of oppression, that we are a source of oppression to the world, and if not simply a source, the chief source. And I fear that when Mr. Bush says, ‘our image of a God we share’, he doesn’t mean Allah.
But I nevertheless laud the president for his passionate and heartfelt words for Dr. King, and for his belief that we all stand together, as followers of Christ, in ‘eternal judgment of oppression’. Those are incredible words.
