George Bush and Me :: Why Are Presidents So Different than Us?

His wife and two children have liberal views and lead normal lives. His advisors cannot possibly be feeding him purely lies. He must see the newspaper. But what engages his brain, and actually moves him to action?

From what I gather, he feels that God has installed a direct line into his heart. Like many Christian members of the Religious Right, he believes that God is ‘his’. God said that Terry Schiavo should live. God said that human beings are here to make money and keep it away from other people (Finders keepers). God said that we should attack Iraq. And now, God said that my friend, though she has no experience as a judge, would be a great judge.

I heard Mr. Bush saying yesterday that it was great that she had no experience. That was precisely why we should be interested in her!

Honestly, I was interested in her as a supreme court justice. There are few women who could share the views of George Bush, regardless of her position. I also believe that, if even Condoleeza Rice were a supreme court justice, she would maintain different positions on topics than what we might think.

So with whom are we left now? He will certainly choose another of his cronies — especially now that he’s been taking a hazing from his conservative colleagues…

I’ve taken a rather long hiatus from ranting, but here’s just a little one:) I think Mr. Bush would be a fine fellow to chat with, and a fine fellow to go to the mall with. He probably doesn’t mind Here Comes Santa Claus 20 times a day. Because it’s more of his brand of Christianity. Money Money Money.

Maybe he’s not getting the true words that God whispers into his ear — maybe the direct line to heaven has a muffler on it… Mr. Bush hears the word of God through the filter of the almighty dollar. And he doesn’t even know it. The puppet doesn’t see the strings because his head is made of wood, and he can’t look upward…

Here’s to the dank odor of Christmas incense, the hum of cheerful consumers, in a willing suspension of reality, the plastic coat of our shopping mall society. But really, here’s to seeing through the fog. Good luck:)
