One.org

I just found out about the massive, and beautiful, organization One.org today, while reading Chuck Currie’s blog (which I frequent, alongside Google News and the New York Times).

The most extraordinary thing about One.org isn’t the long list of celebrities that are on its advertisement, or the massive list of celebrities that have signed the world-wide petition. The most incredible part of their plan is that it uses the concept of One. Of course the organization must have thought of Bono’s amazing song ‘One’ as an inspiration for the title — the song which has been sung around the world as a symbol of freedom, and which was written for Martin Luther King.

One.org doesn’t expect much out of visitors — only your signature. Visit One.org here.

One.org also does have other opportunities to help, though, involving a One.org armband or other paraphenalia, or local events, etc. Check out their site!

You should also check out the video that they put together with many celebrities. I was tickled to see Pat Robertson in the same video as Bono, Tom Hanks, Jewel, and many more. Very cool.

Aid to the poor should not be a partisan issue. I really applaud all of the celebrities and organizations involved (including Bread for the World, among others) for connecting Christians of all denominations and non-Christians, in the pursuit of humanitarian aid to the poor and suffering of the world.

I believe that this organization is truly grounded in the depths of Christian belief and fellowship. I believe that we must get down on the earth, grass and dirt stains and all, and see ourselves as poor, and in solidarity, sign this petition that we, one by one, can make this small difference. We will be a message to our government, and we can show a few folks, one by one, the truth we see. That, I believe, is the true meaning of evangelization. Preaching the gospel in the things that we do. Opening the door, sitting down in a tent with the poor and afflicted and drinking their cup.

Check out One.org!
